Georgetown Volleyball Hosts South Florida on Saturday

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University volleyball team welcomes BIG EAST Conference opponent South Florida to McDonough Arena on Saturday, October 20 for a 1 p.m. match. The match will be the last of a four-match homestand for the Hoyas before they hit the road for a quartet of BIG EAST Conference contests before returning for their final two matches at McDonough Arena to close out the season. For fans who cannot attend the game, live video will be available through HoyaVision at the Georgetown athletics website, www.guhoyas.com.

Georgetown (5-17, 1-6 BE) fell just shy of its second come-from-behind win in three games on Tuesday when they lost to visiting VCU. After falling behind, 2-0, the Hoyas won games two and three as they improved their hitting to .281 over the two-game span. Sophomore Jessica Hardy (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) led the team with 26 kills while classmate Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Junior Caitlin Boland (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) guided the offense as she tallied 53 assists and added 10 digs for the double-double.

The Blue and Gray won its first league match of the season last Friday when they defeated Pittsburgh in dramatic fashion. Trailing 2-0, the Hoyas capitalized on a .116 performance from the Panthers in game three and put up an impressive .302 hitting percentage in game four. The Hoyas battled through a back-an-forth fifth game and won the match on a kill from sophomore Dana Dumas (Nokomis, Fla./Pine View).

South Florida (12-5, 5-2 BE) comes off a 3-2 loss to Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday. The Bulls have won its last two BIG EAST Conference matches with 3-1 wins over West Virginia and Pittsburgh. USF's Marcela Gurgel leads the team with 298 kills and 47 service aces and is second on the team with a .229 hitting percentage. South Florida has a winning record (4-3) on the road and a 2-1 mark in league road games.
