Georgetown Men's Soccer Hosts Providence on Saturday

Oct. 5, 2007

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown men's soccer team will continue its four-game homestand when the Hoyas host BIG EAST rival Providence (5-3-1, 2-1-1 BE) on North Kehoe Field on Saturday, October 6. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. The match can be viewed live via HoyaVision on the GUHoyas.com web site.

Georgetown (2-7-0, 1-4-0) looks to snap a two-game slide and the Blue & Gray hopes to stop a scoring drought that has spanned 244 minutes. The Hoyas come into the match with three points in the BIG EAST Blue Division while the Friars sit in third place in the Blue Division with seven points.

Providence's main scoring threat is senior midfielder Ryan Maduro. The preseason All-BIG EAST selection and 2006 NSCAA All-American leads the league with eight points (3 G, 2 A) in conference play. The Bristol, R.I native has four goals and three assists on the season. Maduro was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after scoring two goals while handing out an assist in PC's 3-1 victory over Syracuse.

Five of Georgetown's seven losses have come by the score of 1-0.

Freshmen Robert Burnett (Plano, Texas/Plano West) and Mostafa Ebrahimnejad (Columbia, Md./Hammond) are two of the three Hoya players who have started all nine games.

Senior forward Mike Glaccum (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle) played 25 minutes vs. Villanova last Sunday after spraining his ankle near the end of the first half against Rutgers. The Hoya attack should also see the return of sophomore Justin Kondos (Odenton, Md./Arundel). Kondos suffered a high ankle sprain in the first weekend of action at the JMU Tournament.

The Hoyas hold a slim 9-8-1 all-time record in the series although the Friars have won three of the last four meetings.

Admission for Saturday's game is $5 for adults and $2 for children and senior citizens. All Georgetown students are free with valid university ID.
