Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will look to extend its three-game win streak when the Hoyas travel to Towson University on Thursday night, November 29, 2007 inside Towson Center. Live stats and the audio broadcast can be heard at www.towsontigers.com
Towson will be playing in its home-opener after going 2-1 in three straight road games to open the season.
The Hoyas are coming off their best performance of the season, an 81-56 win over Navy on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
Georgetown will be looking to improve to 4-1 for the first time under fourth-year head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy.
Hoyas in the Series vs. Towson ... The all-time series between Towson and Georgetown is tied at 3-3. Five of the six meetings between the schools were played during the 1980's. Thursday's meeting will be the third time that the Hoyas have traveled to Towson. GU is 1-1 on the road against the Tigers.
Last season, in the season opener for both schools, Towson topped the Hoyas 65-57 in Washington, D.C. Shanae Baker-Price totaled 25 points, six rebounds and three assists in the Towson win last season. Baker-Price was 10-13 from the charity stripe and scored eight points over the final three-plus minutes to thwart a Hoya rally.
Georgetown's Kieraah Marlow posted a double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds in defeat. GU trailed 57-55 with 2:27 remaining in the game but could not get any closer.
Fast Breaks ... -- The Hoyas open the season playing five of their first seven on the road.
-- In all three of Georgetown's victories, GU has led at halftime and the Hoyas have outrebounded its opponent.
-- Georgetown scored 43 first half points in the win at Gardner-Webb. It was the biggest single-half output since GU netted 44 points vs. Fordham last season. In the victory over Navy two games later, the Hoyas netted 45 first half points. The 45 points is just two points shy of the biggest single-half scoring output in the Terri Williams-Flournoy era (vs. Providence, 1/29/05).
-- Junior guard Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) ranks fourth on the school's all-time list with a career three-point field goal percentage of .361 (129-357). Heidloff is 7-15 from long range so far this season. Her 129 career three-pointers ranks sixth all-time in Georgetown annals. She is 10 treys shy of tying Kate Carlin (139) for fifth place all-time. Heidloff's 15 three-pointers rank among the BIG EAST's top 15 this season.
-- Senior forward Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) now has 1,289 career points and she is just four points shy moving into a tie for ninth-place on the school's all-time scoring list. Marlow, who earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors in each of the last two seasons, is one of 20 GU players to surpass the 1,000-point plateau. The Coatesville, Pa. native has tallied double figures 69 times in her career and has netted double figure points in ten consecutive games twice, once during her freshman season and once last season as a junior. Marlow tallied 17 points in each of the team's first three games before a 19-point effort vs. Navy. She tallied her 25th career double-double with 17 points and 11 points vs. AU. Her 25 career double-doubles ranks third among active BIG EAST players.
-- In her first three career starts, all this season, guard Brina Pollack (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) recorded a career-high 12 points each time. Pollack, a transfer from Purdue, was limited to just 13 games last season due to injuries. In the season's first four games, the Marlboro, N.J. native is leading the team with 29.5 minutes, a 60 percent field goal percentage (18-30), 3.0 assists per game while ranking second with 10.5 points per game. Her 60 percent clip from the floor ranks 5th in BIG EAST.
-- Senior 6-5 center Aminata Diop, a transfer from Southeastern Illinois J.C., averaged 6.1points and 5.3 rebounds a year ago in her first season in the Blue and Gray. The native of Senegal, on the western coast of Africa, hit 45 percent of her field goals and notched two double-doubles last season. Diop had her third career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds vs. Navy. She ranks second on the team with 5.3 rebounds and fourth on the team with 6.8 points per game.
Scouting Towson ... Towson (2-1) is playing in its home opener on Thursday. The Tigers won their first two games, 58-56 at Mt. St. Mary's and 76-55 at Norfolk State before falling 80-76 at Duquesne on Sunday.
Sophomore guard Shanae Baker-Brice leads the Tigers in scoring with an 11.3 point per game average while her 5.0 assists per game average ranks sixth in the CAA. Meanwhile, senior guard Holly Mahan and sophomore Kandace Davis both rank among the CAA leaders in rebounding. Davis is fifth in the CAA with an 8.7 average while Mahan ranks eighth with an 8.3 average.
The Tigers were selected to finish sixth in the 12-team Colonial Athletic Association.
