Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University sailing team opened the 2007 spring season last weekend in its quest to repeat as the nation's best team. The women were at the Charleston Spring Women's Intersectional, while the coed squad participated in the four-school ODU Triad.

At Charleston, the Hoyas were fourth of 12 schools with 130 points over 24 races. Charleston took the first two spots, with 82 and 104 points, respectively, followed by Stanford with 115. In the A Division, junior Blaire Herron (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) and senior Emily Sigular (Conway, Mass./The Hotchkiss School) placed fourth with 66 points in their 12 races. They were among the top half of the field in eight races, including two first place finishes. Sophomore Emily Babbitt (Dartmouth, Mass./Bishop Stang) and freshman Alexandra Taylor (Hobe Sound, Fla./The Benjamin School) totaled 64 points to place sixth in the B Division. They finished between fifth and seventh in all 12 races.

At Old Dominion, the Hoyas were in a practice regatta with Navy, St. Mary's and the host Monarchs, with Saturday consisting of fleet racing and Sunday being team race competition. On Saturday, junior Chris Behm (Hampton, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) and sophomore Carly Chamberlain (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) won the six-race fleet racing portion. St. Mary's occupied the next six spots, followed by junior Zach Kavanaugh (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) and senior Emilie Bogrand (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Taft) in eighth of the 18 boat field. Georgetown went 3-1 in Sunday's team racing portion to conclude the weekend.

Next weekend, the Hoyas return to the water for the Charleston Coed Intersectional and the Navy Quad Invitational.
