Fighting Camel Classic Day One Results

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's golf team shot a 49-over par 337 to place 14th after the first round of play at the Fighting Camel Spring Classic, held at the par-72, 6,012-yard Keith Hills Country Club No. 1. This is the first tournament of the spring season for the Hoyas.

Campbell (12-over par 300) leads the event heading into second round action on Tuesday. Illinois State is the closet competitor at 315, 27-over-par. Seven other schools are within seven strokes of second place.

Mary Mattson of Campbell leads the field with an even-par 72. Three other ladies, Claudine Foong of Gardner-Webb, Amber Ward of Colorado State and Emily Simpson of Campbell are all one stroke off the lead, as the trio all shot a 73.

Juniors Katie Dwyer (Allentown, Pa./Moravian Academy) and Jenna Winokur (Springlake, N.J./Wall) are tied for 31st after both ladies shot a 9-over par 81. Winokur shot a 37 on the front nine while Dwyer shot a 39 over the final nine.

Junior Stephanie Cope (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Visitation Prep) shot an 87 on the first day, while two of her teammates are right behind her. Sophomore Chelsea Curtis (Mashpee, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) shot an opening-round 88, while senior Maggie Ward (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) finished the day with an 89.

Second-round action will get under way with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
