Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's golf team shot a 47-over par 335 on the last day of the Fighting Camel Spring Classic, held at the par-72, 6,012-yard Keith Hills Country Club No. 1. The team finished 15th in their first tournament of the spring season finishing with a two-day score of 672, 96-over-par.
The tournament's host, Campbell (29-over par 605), won the event. Illinois State and Mercer finished in a tie for second as both schools shot a 59-over-par 635.
Maite Ortiz dePinedo of Campbell finished with the top score, shooting a two-day total of 148, 4-over-par. Yesterday's leader Mary Mattson of Campbell finished tied for third and two shots back of the winner after shooting a second round 78. The high score of the round belonged to Kate O'Sullivan of High Point who jumped all the way up to second place in the event and finished one stroke off the leader.
Junior Jenna Winokur (Springlake, N.J./Wall) led the Hoyas over the two days as she shot a closing round 82 to finish in a tie for 37th. Junior Katie Dwyer (Allentown, Pa./Moravian Academy) shot a second round 84 and finished in a tie for 49th.
Sophomore Chelsea Curtis (Mashpee, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) had the biggest improvement and shot the best round for the Hoyas with a final round 80. That effort left her in tie for 57th. Junior Stephanie Cope (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Visitation Prep) shot an 89 on her second day while senior Maggie Ward (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Arcadia) finished the round with a 92. The Hoyas will travel to Sebring, Fla. for their next event, the NIU SpringLake Invitational on March 9-10.
