Georgetown Sailing Finishes Fourth at MAISA Team Race Championship

April 9, 2007

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University sailing team finished fourth this past weekend for the Prosser Trophy, awarded to the winner of the MAISA Team Race Championship, hosted by Old Dominion.

St. Mary's won the regatta with an overall record of 15-2, followed by Hobart/William Smith at 13-4 and Navy at 10-7. The Hoyas finished the weekend with a record of 8-9. St. Mary's, Hobart and Navy advanced to the ICSA Team Race National Championships in May. This year will mark the first time since 1999 that the Hoyas will not be competing in the team race nationals.

Georgetown was in a tie for fifth after the first round robin with a record of 3-4, but improved in the second round robin format to go 5-2 and advance to the final four. However, in the final four, the Hoyas went 0-3 to take fourth place.

The Hoyas return to competition this weekend for the Arrigan Memorial Regatta, the Admirals Cup, the Moody Trophy, the Women's Dellenbaugh Intersectional and the North 2 Regatta.
