Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University women's novice lightweight rowing coach Sarah Trowbridge won a gold medal today in the women's double sculls race at the 2007 Pan American Games, being held in Rio de Janeiro.
In winning the gold medal, Trowbridge was coached by Hoyas first-year lightweight varsity head coach Jim O'Connor, who is serving on the coaching staff for the United States team.
Trowbridge teamed up with Margaret Matia, a former rower from the University of Virginia, to capture first place in 7:16.03, nearly three seconds ahead of the Canadian team.
Trowbridge, Matia and teammates Reilly Dampeer and Julie Nichols placed first in 6:57.11 in the women's quadruple sculls race for lane assignments on Wednesday afternoon. The U.S. crew advances to gold medal finals on Thursday, July 18 at 9:45 a.m.
