Hoya Headliner with Sean Bellomy

Sept. 25, 2007

Junior Sean Bellomy has appeared in every game for the Hoyas this season and dished out an assist in the 1-0 win over Marshall. Bellomy moved to the midfield this season and has been a bit more offensive minded. The business major took a few minutes to sit down with Hoya Headliner. After playing its first seven games on the road, the Hoyas have their home opener on Friday, September 28.

How did you get recruited to attend Georgetown?
(Former) coach Keith Tabatznik saw me play in a Dallas tournament and I didn't even know he was there. I had emailed the GU staff early on to show my interest. We got in to contact and I took an official visit. Joe Devine was my host and it just worked out.

How do your parents feel about you playing collegiate soccer?
They think it's great. My older brother played baseball in college Southwestern University in Texas. My younger brother, Beau currently plays soccer at Saint Louis. My dad was a hockey player at Notre Dame so athletics was always a part of our lives.

How was the transition from the high school game to the college game?
The college game is a lot faster. Every team we play against is good and talented. Anybody can beat their opponent on any day. Every game is a battle.

Whom do you look to for advice when you need it?
My older brother and my parents.

Do you have any superstitions before games?
(laughing) Not really.

What song gets you pumped up before games?
A whole variety of stuff. I have been listening to Tom Petty a lot lately, his greatest hits.

If you could be on any reality show, which one would you choose? Why?
The Contender. I like boxing. I think it would be cool to train to be a good boxer - hard work but cool. I'm probably not dramatic enough to be on a show like The Real World.

Do you prefer "Family Guy" or "The Simpsons"?
Family Guy. It's hilarious.

What would you do if you won a million dollars?
At this point in my life, probably save it or invest it. A few years back I might have said I would have spent it right away.

What do you like to do in the off-season?
I think most of the guys from the team look forward to going to basketball games.

What is your favorite quote from Coach Wiese?
Well, there's a lot ... He says "It's a great day to play,"and he usually says it on bad weather days.

What is the best/worst thing about living in D.C.?
I think the best and worst thing about living in D.C. is that it's so fast paced. Dallas is a lot more laid back. I can see myself working in New York or D.C. but when its time to raise a family, I'd probably move back to Dallas.

What is your "breakfast of champions?"
Eggs, raisin bran, orange juice, maybe a bagel.

If you could get front row tickets to any concert, now or in the past, which would it be?
A few guys on the team are going to see Bruce Springsteen. I've never seen him live before. I like his song The Rising and the new song they've been playing Radio Nowhere.

What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas just because I get to spend time with family.

When did you first start playing soccer?
Probably at the age of 5 or 6. My brothers and I grew up playing a lot of hockey because my dad played it in college. Hockey wasn't big in the south so I ended up sticking with soccer. I'm glad I did.

When did you know that you wanted to play soccer competitively in college?
All through high school. I just couldn't see myself not playing anymore. I felt I could play at a high level and we've been playing some of the best teams in the country lately.

Who is your biggest rival?
I think Notre Dame is. They're usually ranked but it's a good game for us to win. I have a lot of family who are Irish fans so the result is for bragging rights.

Who on the team do you rely on the most?
Probably Len Coleman. But we won the other day when he wasn't in the lineup so who knows? I think we all rely on each other.

If you could be great at any other sport or event besides soccer, what would it be?
Hockey - I played center and wing when I was a kid. My brothers and I are little bummed we stopped playing because we felt we could be pretty good. I hope to play in some adult leagues when I'm done playing soccer in college and have a full-time job.

What was your "welcome to college" moment?
I scored the game-winning goal in ovetime and the team tackled me in a typical post-game celebration. That was pretty cool.

What one word do people use to describe you?
Hard-working.

Favorite Georgetown restaurant?
Tombs.

What is your dream job?
I'd like to be an entrepenuer.

Freshman dorm?
New South.

Any advice for anyone who wants to join soccer?
It takes a lot of commitment and hard work.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
(Laughing) Hopefully retired with money in the bank.

Booey's or Wisey's?
Wisey's, I like the california chicken.
