2007-08 Schedule
Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University head women's basketball coach Terri Williams-Flournoy announced the 2007-08 schedule dates today. The Hoyas will play five games in November, with the season opener at Hampton University on Friday, November 9. Georgetown will host cross-town rival American University on Friday, November 16 in the home opener.
The Blue & Gray hits the court seven times in the month of December, including a three-game homestand with games against Virginia Commonwealth (Dec. 16), Loyola Marymount (Dec. 20) and East Tennessee State (Dec. 22).
GU will tip off the 2008 calendar year with a home game vs. Brown on Friday, January 4 to close out the non-league slate before opening BIG EAST play at Cincinnati on Tuesday, January 8.
Georgetown has non-league road games at Hampton (Nov. 9), at Gardner-Webb (Nov. 13), at Towson (Nov. 29), at Fordham (Dec. 6) and at Penn State (Dec.9). The Hoyas will participate in a holiday tournament at Virginia Tech on November 29-30 along with East Carolina, Furman and the host Hokies. Georgetown will face East Carolina in the tourney's opening game on Saturday, December 29.
In addition to the game at Cincinnati, GU also hits the road for BIG EAST games at Villanova (Jan. 12), at West Virginia (Jan. 26), at Marquette (Jan.29), at Connecticut (Feb. 12), at Louisville (Feb. 17), at Syracuse (Feb. 26) and at Pittsburgh in the regular-season finale on Monday, March 3.
The Hoyas will host Rutgers (Jan.15), Notre Dame (Jan.19), Seton Hall (Jan. 22), Syracuse (Feb. 2), St. John's (Feb. 6), DePaul (Feb. 20), USF (Feb. 23) and Providence (Mar. 1) in conference play.
The BIG EAST Tournament is slated for March 8-11 at the Hartford (Conn.) Civic Center.
The 2007-08 season marks the third year of the expanded BIG EAST Conference. Georgetown will play all 15 schools one time with home-and-home meetings against Syracuse.
Fourth-year head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy returns three seniors to this season's squad, including two-time All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville). Guard Kristin Heidloff (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) is entering her final season after starting all 28 games as a junior, averaging 7.4 points and ranking fifth in the league with 2.14 steals per game.
Center Aminata Diop (Saint Louis, Senegal/Southeastern Illinois J.C.) averaged 6.1 points and made 45 percent of her field goal tries to go along with 5.3 rebounds.
Williams-Flournoy also welcomes five newcomers to the program including post player Krystle Hatton (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood East), a transfer from St. Louis University, who stands at 6-2. Guards Beata Widding (Malmo, Sweden/Langhaugen Vidergaende) and Karee Houlette (Houston, Texas/Cypress Springs) join the team after two seasons at Panola (Texas) Junior College.
Eight opponents on the 2007-08 schedule made an appearance in the last season's NCAA Tournament.
