Men's Soccer Travels to Pittsburgh for Saturday Showdown

Oct. 17, 2008

Washington, D.C. - The No. RV/25 Georgetown University men's soccer squad will look to make a mark in the win column as the team travels to the University of Pittsburgh to face the Panthers in a BIG EAST contest on Saturday. The Hoyas are 7-3-3 overall and 2-2-3 in conference, they have not lost a league game since mid-September.

Pittsburgh is 6-5-2 for the year and 2-4-1 in the BIG EAST sitting in seventh place in the Blue Division, three positions below the Hoyas. The Panthers are led by E.J. McCormick who has two goals and a pair of assists on the year for six points. Much like the Hoyas, Pitt has split time with two different goalkeepers this season. Eric Barnes is leading the way in the net with a 0.65 GAA. Barnes played a bulk of the minutes in Pitt's last game against No. 9/16 Notre Dame.

The Hoyas are coming back from a tough nonconference loss against American earlier in the week. Leading GU in scoring is Peter Grasso (Burr Ridge,Ill./Hinsdale Central) with four goals on the season. Keeper Mark Wilbur (Tijeras, N.M./Albuquerque Acad.) took the net versus American but Saturday's keeper will not be announced until just before kickoff.

Georgetown holds a 15-6 series advantage over the Panthers. Last season, the Hoyas defeated Pitt, 2-0, at home, however, the Panthers won the last game at Founders Field, 1-0.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
