WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown women's tennis team will travel to Philadelphia for the Wilson/ITA East Regional Championships, Oct. 24-28, on the campus of The University of Pennsylvania. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, November 6-9, hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.
Representing Georgetown in singles play is freshman Michelle Brown. Michelle has begun her college career in a winning fashion by establishing a 7-1 record thus far in singles tournament play. This impressive run was marked by very strong performance in the A Flight of the University of Maryland Invitational Tournament where she defeated 4 opponents on her way to a third place finish.
Over the 5 day East Regional Tournament, Michelle Brown will compete against a highly selective field of top players from Division I schools. Top seeds from the Eastern Region include: Kellie Schmitt of Marshall, Zoricic of William and Mary, Ragini Acharya of William and Mary, Ekaterina Kosminskaya of Penn, Jennifer Stevens of UVA, Lana Krasnopolsky of Boston College, Bianca Aboubakare of Brown, Janet Kim of Yale, Emily Fraser of UVA, and Pam Duran of Richmond.
Georgetown will also send one doubles team to compete in the ITA East Regional Championships. The team of sophomore Alex Sebia and freshman Jacquie Harrison will represent the Hoyas in the 64 team doubles main draw. In previous fall tournament doubles play Sebia and Harrison advanced to the semi-finals in the B flight of the University of Maryland Invitational.
