Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University volleyball team (11-9, 4-3 BIG EAST) plays host to Rutgers University (1-15, 0-6 BIG EAST) this Sunday, October 26, 2 p.m. at McDonough Arena. This is the sixth BIG EAST conference match for the Hoyas. They fell last weekend coming to South Florida, 3-0, as junior Courtney Cohen (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley ) led the team in kills (7) and blocks (2).
The Hoyas fell to the Scarlet Knights a year ago in five sets. In the series, the home team has won the last four matches. The Scarlet knights come to McDonough looking to snap an 11-match losing streak, including six BIG EAST Conference losses. Sophomore, Caitlin Saxton has led the Scarlet Knights in kills (139) and serves aces (14) this season.
With four BIG EAST victories, the Hoyas already have their most conference wins since 2003. The last time Georgetown won more than four conference matches was in 2002 when they went 7-6 in conference.
Senior Caitlin Boland (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) is fifth in the BIG EAST averaging 10.20 assists per set. Freshman Ashley Malone (San Jose, Calif./St. Francis) is sixth in the BIG EAST averaging 0.37 service aces per set. Fellow freshman Tory Rezin (Morris, Ill./Morris) is sixth in the conference with 3.84 digs per set. Rezin was names BIG EAST freshman of the week on Sept. 15.
Next up for the Hoyas is Louisville, the Cardinals will host Georgetown October 31 in Louisville, Ky.
