Brutto Tops NCAA Rankings Heading Into Notre Dame

Oct. 28, 2008

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University goalkeeper Matthew Brutto (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) has moved into the number one position in the NCAA rankings as the Hoyas prepare for a contest against No. 19/NR Notre Dame on Wednesday. Brutto has yet to allow a goal in his eight games played this season to lead the BIG EAST and the nation in the net. The sophomore had been splitting time in goal and was not eligible to be ranked until earlier this week.

Brutto has tallied 37 saves in 740 minutes played so far this season. His 0.00 GAA and 1.00 save percentage is the best in the country topping Neil Kitson from St. John's in save percentage (0.918). Brutto now has eight shutouts on the year which ties him for the GU record set in 1998 by Tyler Purtill. He also ranks 11th on the NCAA's all-time list for consecutive shutout minutes. The Hoyas have tied the school record for shutouts in a season with Brutto and Mark Wilber (Tijeras, N.M./Albuquerque Acad.) combining for 10 so far this year.

Georgetown will travel to South Bend, Ind., on Wednesday for a BIG EAST contest against the Fighting Irish. UND is currently leading the Blue Division with 17 points, but the Hoyas aren't far behind with 15 after posting a 4-2-3 conference record and a mark of 9-3-3 overall.

Kickoff in South Bend is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Gametracker will be available at www.GUHoyas.com and a free video feed will be on www.UND.com.
