Nov. 19, 2008

Box Score

Providence, R.I. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team dominated the Brown University Bears (0-3) Wednesday evening in Providence, R.I., with an 83-42 win. The Hoyas put together a solid defensive performance and managed to get points from every player on the floor for a total team victory. GU improves to 2-0 on the season going into its home opener on Saturday.

The Hoyas set the tempo early, scoring in transition and utilizing a stifling defensive attack. GU allowed just 13 first half points from the Bears, who suffered a number of long scoring droughts thanks to Georgetown's disruptive efforts.

On offense, once again the Hoyas looked to the paint to score while also accumulating 11 points off of Brown turnovers. The combination of junior Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton) and senior Krystle Hatton (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood East) in the middle was too much for the Bears. During a three-minute span, the pair combined for 10 Hoya layups and a number of big rebounds.

At the break, Georgetown held a comfortable 35-13 advantage, with Butler leading the way with six points in the balanced attack. The Hoyas were dominant on the boards, outrebounding Brown 23-14 as well as forcing 17 turnovers and posting six steals. Georgetown shot 51.7 percent from the field while holding the Bears to just 23.1 percent shooting.

GU opened the second half with a scorching 10-0 run in the first four minutes to take a 32-point lead. A trio of trey's from Meredith Cox (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) fired up the squad as it began to find open cutters in the lane and managed to reverse it to get baskets from the weak side which Brown just couldn't stop.

With time winding down, Cox hit two more back-to-back to finish the game with 15 points and help GU to an 83-42 victory.

GU finished the game shooting 53.1 percent from the field and holding the Bears to just 29.6 percent. Down low, the Hoyas outrebounded Brown 42-29 and forced 27 turnovers. All 14 players that suited up for GU scored, Cox had 15 while freshman Adria Crawford (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) had eleven. Crawford led the Hoyas in rebounding with eight.

The Hoyas will host Central Michigan on Saturday in their home opener. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m., at McDonough Arena. A webcast and live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
