Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Central Michigan University Chippewas (1-0) Saturday afternoon at McDonough Arena in the squad's home opener. The Hoyas are currently 2-0 on the season after a pair of victories on the road this past week. Central Michigan will face Howard University on Friday before concluding its trip out East with GU on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The last time Georgetown started the season 2-0 was Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy's second season in 2005-06. The Hoyas have started two of the seven freshmen in both contests this season but have gotten some huge performances from returners including Krystle Hatton and Meredith Cox. GU has been hitting from the field shooting over 50 percent against Brown and with three players ranked in the top 15 of the BIG EAST in field goal percentage. Already this season, the Hoyas have displayed a pressure defense resulting in 27 turnovers in the Brown game.
Saturday marks the first meeting between the two squads, however, the Hoyas are 2-1 against squads from the Mid-American Conference. Central Michigan finished sixth last season in the conference's West Division. The last time GU faced a MAC opponent was during the 2004-05 season when the Hoyas played Kent State at the LaSalle Classic and won 65-59.
Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. The game will be streamed live at www.GUHoyas.com with play-by-play from Drew Wiseman. Gametracker will also be available at the Georgetown website.
