Storrs, Conn. - The Georgetown University volleyball team (13-12, 5-6 BIG EAST) could not hang with University of Connecticut (19-7, 8-3 BIG EAST), as the Huskies stopped the Hoyas in three sets 25-13, 25-16, 25-20 on Saturday afternoon. The loss is the Hoyas third consecutive conference loss.
Sophomore Vanessa Dorismond (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) led the Hoyas offense with 10 kills and senior Caitlin Boland (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) had 25 assists for Georgetown.
In the first set Georgetown took a 3-1 lead, before the Huskies scored the next ten points to take control of the set. Later in the set, a six-point run by UConn gave them an insurmountable 17-6 lead on the way to a 25-13 first set victory.
UConn treated the second set in the same manner, using a 7-0 run to break a 6-6 tie. Dorismond had five of her team-high ten kills in the second sets, but the Hoyas would fall behind by as many as nine points, as the Huskies cruised to a 25-16 second set win.
The Huskies opened an early lead in the third set and never looked back, leading by as many as eight points on their way to a 25-20 third set win to clinch the match. Connecticut's Jordan Kirk had five her game-high 12 kills and Annie Luhrsen had two kills and 10 assists. Boland added two blocks and nine assists for the Hoyas.
Georgetown will travel south to New York City to take on the St. John's Red Storm at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 9.
