Arlington, Va. - The Georgetown University women's tennis team (1-4, 1-1) could not hold off a powerful Dartmouth squad at the Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va. on Sunday, falling for the second consecutive day, 7-0.
Freshman Caroline Kuehn (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) provided a spark for the Hoyas, battling with Mary Beth Winingham in the No. 3 singles match, pushing it to three sets. Kuehn took the first set 6-4, before Winingham responded with a 6-0 second set. Kuehn fought in the third, but was unable to best Winingham, who won the third set 6-2 to take the match.
Liz Winokur (West Palm Beach, Fla./Cardinal Newman) and Elizabeth Sullivan (Potomac, Md./National Cathedral School) rallied from a 7-2 deficit, before falling 8-4 to Winingham and Jesse Adler in the second doubles spot. Meanwhile, freshman Maxi Thiels (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) and Kuehn gave Dartmouth's third doubles pair all they could handle, before falling 8-5, as the Big Green captured the doubles point.
Thiels and freshman Alex Sebia (Plains, Pa./Scranton Prep) kept the first sets in their respective singles matches close, each losing 6-4. But Thiels was unable to defeat Adler, dropping the second set 6-2 at No. 4, while Sebia dropped her second set, 6-0 at No. 6.
