WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's volleyball team has announced that Jake Lawrence has joined the Hoyas coaching staff as an assistant coach. Lawrence comes to the Hoyas from the College of Charleston, where he served as an assistant coach with the Southern Conference champions in 2006 and 2007.
"I am thrilled to have rounded out our staff with someone the caliber of Jake Lawrence," said Georgetown volleyball head coach Arlisa Hagan Williams said. "He brings solid Division I experience coming from the College of Charleston. On top of that, his experience as a student assistant at Xavier and club experience with a premier club in Ohio, will instantly help the Hoyas as we grow our program to greatness."
At College of Charleston, Lawrence assisted head coach Sherry Dunbar in 2006 and Jason Kepner in 2007, as the Cougars won back-to-back Southern Conference titles and earned berths in the NCAA Tournament in each of his two seasons in Charleston. Lawrence's primary responsibilities included coaching outside hitters, recruiting student-athletes and scouting opponents.
"Jake has a passion for the game that I have rarely witnessed. He is a ball of energy with great ideas and is a wonderful addition to our volleyball family," Hagan Williams said.
Prior to his time at College of Charleston, Lawrence, a Pittsburgh, Pa. native, served as an undergraduate assistant coach at Xavier University, helping guide the Musketeers to a 2004 Atlantic 10 Championship. He also served as the head coach for Team Z Volleyball Club, an elite Junior Olympics team in Cincinnati, Ohio.
As an outside hitter with Renaissance Volleyball Club in Pittsburgh, Pa., Lawrence was an All-America nominee in 2000 and 2001 on a team that made four consecutive national championships, between 1999-2002. He graduated from Xavier University with a bachelor of arts in political science in 2006.
