Washington, D.C. - Incoming Georgetown University freshman Brian Dorfman (Greenwood Village, Colo.) defeated 10th-seeded Clark Shafer in the championship round on Friday to win the Colorado Golf Association Junior Match Play Championship. Dorfman cruised through the first six rounds of the tournament before defeating Shafer 2 and 1 to win the tournament.
In his match against Shafer, Dorfman took an early lead, going one up through two holes and never looked back. By then end of the fist 18 holes, Dorfman had pushed his lead to three up. Dorfman pushed his lead to five up at the turn of the second 18 before Shafer made a run, winning the 12th, 14th, 15th, and 16th holes.
Dorfman put his opponent away on the 17th with a six-foot par putt to halve the hole.
This is the 58th year that the CGA Junior Match Play Championship has been played. This year's event took place at Bear Creek Golf Club in Denver, Colorado.
The win at the CGA Junior Match Play continued a good month for Dorfman, who finished third at the Colorado State Junior Stroke Play Championships.
Dorfman is one of two Georgetown University incoming freshmen, the other being Taylor Hall (Roswell, Ga.).
