Arlisa Williams Volleyball Blog - 8/19/08

It's hard to believe that another year is upon us. The summer flew by way too fast, but I'm absolutely thrilled that the team is back, healthy and with great attitudes.

We kicked off the season with our annual welcome back dinner in the Thompson Lobby of McDonough on August 8th. Alan, our trainer, did a great job once again with the ordering of the food and Thirsty Bernie's came through. Except, of course, I forgot to ask for a vegetarian dish for Courtney and all she could eat was gazpacho. At least it was good gazpacho. Several parents joined us for the kick off event as well as some siblings, administration, and our water girl, Lucy. We hope as the year goes on we'll have more fans joining us for our events.... Keep your ears peeled.

We headed into our first practice on the 9th. With new staff, Jake and Lynnette, as well as the new players, Sam, Ashley, Sara and Tory, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. First practice exceeded my expectations. The energy was high, the players worked hard, were competitive and showed me that they didn't take the summer lightly. Without giving away all of our secrets, all I can say is the coaching staff is very pleased!

We have a tough schedule ahead of us with six teams having competed in last year's NCAA tournament. However, the leadership from our seniors, Caitlin and Kit as well as our co-captain, Paola will have us ready for everything that thrown our way. I'm looking for a great year but we can't do it without great support. With that, I'll leave you until next time. We hope that you will pack the stands our first home weekend, September 12 and 13 or that we see you somewhere on the road along the way.

Hoya Saxa!

PS Look for a comments from Caitlin next week. Her perspective is probably a lot more interesting than mine.
