WASHINGTON, D.C. - Preseason is back in full swing as we all return to Georgetown for another season. Seeing everyone after a summer apart was exciting - we spend so much time together each year that it makes any time apart seem like a lot. We spent the first couple of nights catching up with the returners and getting to know our new additions. We have had a lot of laughs and a lot of fun together so far, and I'm looking forward to a season with this group of girls.

At this point, we have survived testing and the initial soreness that always comes from getting back into the gym. We have made it through sixteen practices and a handful of lifts, including six double days. The energy in the gym is great so far. Everyone is working hard to get better every day. It is exciting to see the talent that the newcomers bring as well as the progress and leadership the returners add. We also have new additions to the coaching staff, bringing in new ideas and knowledge to make us better. In the twelve days since arriving we have made many improvements as individuals and as a team. Our first match is fast approaching - Friday, August 29th at George Mason. At the rate we have been going, this next week and half will have us ready for our first opponent. I think we are all looking forward to see how we match up and to start the season.

On Tuesday, we changed up our routine a bit and got out of the gym. The team did an interval run over to the beach courts at the Monuments. The run was definitely challenging, but the views of D.C. along the waterfront were nice. Once we arrived we went through a few of our normal drills and then switched into beach mode. Beach volleyball has a different style than indoor. We did a beach warm up and went through some new techniques before playing a doubles tournament. Sam and Ashley were the winners after all was said and done - Kit and I were robbed. Their reward - leading warm ups for the second practice we had later that day.

I'm looking forward to a great senior season with the Hoyas! Keep an eye out for Courtney Cohen's blog next time.
