Tory Rezin Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

Sept. 16, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University volleyball libero Tory Rezin (Morris, Ill./Morris) has been named BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week after earning Most Valuable Player honors at the Georgetown Classic this past weekend. It is the first time Rezin has earned the honor and the first time a Hoya volleyball player has garnered the award since Sara Albert in October 2001.

Rezin averaged 4.67 digs per set over three matches at the Georgetown Classic, including an 18-dig performance against Brown in the tournament finale. Her defensive effort aided the Hoyas .371 team hitting percentage, as the Hoyas never dropped a set during the two-day tournament. For her play Rezin was selected as the Georgetown Classic MVP.

"I think Tori did some great things at the Georgetown Classic," Georgetown head coach Arlisa Williams said following the tournament. "She passed really well, she kept us in system and the thing we really challenged her with was digging and she did great. She had 42 digs in nine sets and that's pretty good."

On the season the Morris, Illinois native leads GU with 116 digs and is fifth in the BIG EAST Conference with an average of 4.14 digs per set.

Georgetown returns to action on Friday, September 19 as they travel to Evanston, Ill. to take part in the Northwestern University Tournament, where they match up with the host Wildcats, No. 5 UCLA and University of Virginia.
