WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University volleyball team (7-6) begins BIG EAST Conference play against DePaul (1-11) on Friday, September 26 at 6 p.m. at McDonough Arena. It will be the fourth meeting between the two schools, with the Hoyas holding a 2-1 series edge.
The Hoyas enter conference play fresh off a straight set victory against Howard University on Monday. Against the Bison, senior Caitlin Boland (Naperville, Ill./Benet Catholic) helped the Hoya hitters maintain a .305 hitting percentage with 47 assists. Four Hoyas hit over .300 including senior Kit Niesen (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside), Junior Courtney Cohen (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep), sophomore Kiersten McKoy (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) and Freshman Sara Manley (Dove Canyon, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic).
Boland is fifth in the BIG EAST, averaging 10.78 assists per set, while placing 30th in NCAA Division I. Sophomore Vanessa Dorismond (Cary, N.C. Cardinal Gibbons) is currently second in the BIG EAST and 51st in Division I with a .367 hitting percentage. Niesen is eighth in the conference with a .331 hitting percentage.
The Hoyas rank fifth in the BIG EAST and 60th in the nation with 1.64 service aces per game. Manley and freshman Ashley Malone (San Jose, Calif./St. Francis) are 11th and 12 th in the conference with 0.36 and 0.35 aces per set respectively. Junior Jessica Hardy (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) is 16 th in the BIG EAST with 0.31 aces per set. Freshman Tory Rezin (Morris, Ill./Morris) is fifth in the BIG EAST with 4.03 digs per set.
DePaul (1-11) is is looking to snap a seven-match losing streak, including a 3-1 home loss to Northern Illinois on Tuesday. The Blue Demons lone victory came against James Madison, who played in the Georgetown Classic, on Sept. 6.
