Box Score

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's soccer team (3-0) shutout Davidson College (1-2), 3-0, Friday afternoon at North Kehoe Field. The solid Hoya defense combined with good decision-making on offense resulted in Georgetown's third shutout of the season.

The first goal came in just the ninth minute when Ibu Otegbeye (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park) knocked it to Seth C'deBaca (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia Prep) who sailed a textbook cross from the deep right corner into the box. Chandler Diggs (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) managed to get a foot on it and send it into the net making the score 1-0.

"Diggs' goal really came from both Seth and Ibu," said Head Coach Brian Wiese. "Without Seth's perfect cross, he wouldn't have his second goal for the season."

The Wildcat defense tightened up for the rest of the first half, limiting GU'a chances. After 45 minutes, both squads had tallied six shots with two saves to keeper Matthew Brutto's (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) credit.

Early in the second half, however, the Hoyas struck again. In the 50th minute Scott Larabee (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Loyola HS of LA) poked the ball to Corey Zeller (Toms River, N.J./Toms River) at the top right corner of the box who did a quick step-over before firing it past keeper Robby Goldsberry giving GU a two-goal lead.

In the final minute of the game, Otegbeye sent it deep as sophomore Jose Colchao (Fairfax, Va./Lake Braddock Secondary School) got past Goldsberry who had come out from the net to score his first career intercollegiate goal and make the final 3-0 in favor of the Hoays.

In the second half, the GU defense tightened up allowing just five shots and only two on goal. "We aren't conceding goals," said Wiese. "Len (Coleman) is a stalwart back there and making it hard for teams to score."

Georgetown finished with 17 shots to Davidson's 11 and Brutto tallied four saves as Goldsberry managed three. This marks the first time the team has started 3-0 since 2005 and the first time in program history they have began the year with three shutouts.

The Hoyas will host Hartford on Sunday at noon at North Kehoe Field.

"Hartford is a good team," said Wiese. "They are foreign but have experience. They have a tough game at Maryland tonight and we hope to see what they do and how they do it. It will be up to us dig deep and see if we can get a win."
