Chapel Hill, N.C. - Senior Katherine Niesen (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) and junior Courtney Cohen (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) each had six kills and senior Caitlin Boland (Naperville, Ill./Benet Catholic) had 23 assists, but it was not enough as the Georgetown volleyball team (3-2) fell to host North Carolina (2-3), 25-16, 25-16, 25-16 at the Carolina Classic.

After posting a season-high 14 total blocks against Davidson on Friday night, the Hoyas were held to just two, while the Tar Heels front line recorded 25 total blocks against GU.

"They are a big team and they blocked us like you wouldn't believe and that took the momentum out of our sails," Georgetown head coach Arlisa Williams said. "They got kills where they needed, they got digs and they just outplayed us in every category."

Sophomore Vanessa Dorismond (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) opened the first set with a kill, but UNC, behind strong play from Suzanne Haydel took an early six point-lead and never looked back, winning 25-16. Dorismond had three kills and a block in the first set, while Cohen led the Hoyas in a first set loss.

GU kept the score close through the first half of the second set until UNC went on a 6-0 run to take an 18-9 lead. The Hoyas fought back behind two kills from Cohen and eight assists from senior Caitlin Boland but it would not be enough as they fell by the same score as the first set, 25-16.

Niesen had three kills to open the third set and again, the Hoyas and Tar Heels traded points early. UNC would ride an 8-0 run to take control. GU could not close their third set deficit to less than six points, to fall again 25-16, as North Carolina snapped the Hoyas two-match winning streak.
