Georgetown Hosts Golden Eagles on Wednesday at McDonough Arena

Jan. 20, 2009

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Marquette University Golden Eagles Wednesday at McDonough Arena. The BIG EAST rivals will tip off at 8 p.m., as both teams are coming off tough losses this past weekend. The Hoyas dropped their first home game of the season and are looking to rebound in BIG EAST play.

Georgetown is 12-5 overall and 2-2 in the BIG EAST entering Wednesday's matchup. The Hoyas posted a nine-game home win streak to which dated back to February 23, 2008 but fell to No. 7/11 Louisville on Saturday making the squad 7-1 at home so far this season.

GU is led by senior Karee Houlette (Houston, Texas/Cypress Springs) who is averaging 8.9 ppg and 14.3 ppg in BIG EAST play. Houlette has led the Hoyas in scoring in their past two contests and has already this season moved into the GU record books for her abilities beyond the arc. Junior reserve Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton), classmate Shanice Fuller (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) and sophomore Monica McNutt (Suitland, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) are all averaging 7.9 ppg to give the Hoyas a balanced attack.

Marquette is 11-7 for the year and also 2-2 in the BIG EAST. The squad had a marquee win over No. 10/4 Notre Dame on Tuesday at home, but fell to No. 23/21 Rutgers on Sunday in the first contest of a two-game road trip for the team. The Golden Eagles are led by All-BIG EAST performer Krystal Ellis who is averaging 13.7 ppg and sophomore Angel Robinson averaging 14.2 ppg. Marquette won the 2007-08 WNIT last season and lost just two players from that squad.

Tip is set for 8 p.m., at McDonough Arena. Live stats and a webcast will be available for fans at www.GUHoyas.com.
