Georgetown to Host Notre Dame in Blue Division Battle

Oct. 20, 2009

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer squad will host the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-6-1) in a key conference matchup Wednesday afternoon at North Kehoe Field at 3 p.m. The squads are both tied for third in the BIG EAST's Blue Division with a record of 5-3 with just a few games remaining in the regular season. Georgetown is looking to rebound after a pair of tough losses last week, the Hoyas are currently 8-5-1 on the season.

Georgetown has only allowed nine goals this season ranking the Hoyas as one of the top defensive teams in the league. Despite two recent losses to No. 9/5 Maryland and Marquette, Georgetown is still among the best in the Blue Division as conference play winds down over the next two weeks.

The Hoyas are led by juniors Seth C'deBaca (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia Prep) and Jose Colchao (Fairfax, Va./Lake Braddock Secondary School) who both have 10 points on the season with three goals and four assists each. Freshman Andy Riemer (McLean, Va./Georgetown Prep) is third in scoring with three goals on the season.

Defensively, Mark Wilber (Tijeras, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) and Matthew Brutto (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) have combined for 64 saves in the net and have a GAA of 0.62. The back four has combined for eight shutouts already this season and ranks fourth overall in goals allowed.

Notre Dame is coming off of a pair of losses against Indiana and West Virginia last week. The Irish are led by senior Bright Dike who has eight goals on the season along with two assists for 18 points. UND is averaging 1.57 goals per game and on the defensive end the Irish have given up just 1.00 goals per game.

Georgetown is 7-9-2 overall against the Irish after suffering a tough 2-1 loss last season in South Bend, Ind. Georgetown Head Coach Brian Wiese will be playing against his former mentor for the fourth time in his career, Wiese was an assistant under Notre Dame Head Coach Bobby Clark for five seasons at Stanford and then for an additional five at Notre Dame. In his career as a head coach Wiese is 0-1-1 against Clark.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at North Kehoe Field. Live stats and a webcast featuring Hoya soccer alum Dan Helfrich will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
