WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer team will take on crosstown rival American University in its final non-conference game of the season Wednesday afternoon at North Kehoe Field. The Hoyas are currently 9-6-1 overall after a big comeback victory over West Virginia this past weekend. The contest marks the first of a two-game home stand to close out the regular season.
Georgetown is sitting in third place in the BIG EAST's Blue Division after defeating West Virginia 2-1 on Saturday. Senior Scott Larrabee (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Loyola of Los Angeles) scored a goal in each of GU's games last week including the game-winner over the Mountaineers to earn a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll. The honor marked the second weekly award of Larrabee's career.
The Hoyas have spent time in the national rankings this past season and are ranked ninth in the NSCAA Northeast Region. Georgetown was fourth in the conference when the first RPI was announced on October 13 sitting at 13th in the nation behind only DePaul, Notre Dame and Connecticut.
The Hoyas have already clinched a berth in the BIG EAST Tournament for the third time in Head Coach Brian Wiese's four-year career.
American is leading the Patriot league with a record of 8-3-2 overall. The Eagles have not lost a game since September 19, a 2-0 loss to William & Mary. AU is led by midfielder Daniel Shannon who has four goals and as many assists on the season for 12 points. Juniors Mike Worden and David Menzie follow with seven points each.
Georgetown is 21-28-3 all-time against the Eagles. Last season the Hoyas fell 4-1 at American. The Blue & Gray is 1-2 against AU under Wiese.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at North Kehoe Field. Live stats and a webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
