Christianson Named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team

Nov. 12, 2009

WASHINGTON - Freshman midfielder Ian Christianson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Christian Life) was named to the BIG EAST's All-Rookie Team the league announced Thursday evening at its awards banquet in Morgantown, W.Va. The first-year Hoya played a major role in Georgetown's midfield despite missing a number of games midseason due to injury. This marks the first nod to the All-Rookie Team for the Blue & Gray since 2000 when Greg Freeburg earned a spot on the squad.

"It's great to see Ian recognized for the impact he had on the league in his first season," said Head Coach Brian Wiese. "It's even more impressive considering he missed four or five games with his injury."

Christianson was a presence in the midfield from his first game on the Hilltop. He appeared in 13 contests, starting in 11 before going down with what some would consider a season-ending injury. The freshman rehabbed and made it back for the final two games of the season as well as starting in the BIG EAST Tournament. He had one goal in his rookie campaign for two points, but his impact was felt in his passing, defense and movement off the ball.

The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native came to Georgetown as one of the top recruits in the nation and did not disappoint. He played with the Chicago Fire's U.S. Development team for two seasons and was in the U.S. National Team Pool for a number of years.

The Hoyas finished the season with an overall record of 9-8-2 and a mark of 6-5 in the BIG EAST. Georgetown will lose just three senior starters to graduation and returns its top four scorers next year.
