Nov. 27, 2009

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Wofford College Terriers on Saturday at McDonough Arena in GU's first home game of the season. The Hoyas are currently 4-2 on the year after a big victory over nationally-ranked Purdue in the BTI Classic and a 94-69 win over Central Michigan on Wednesday. Tipoff against Wofford is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Georgetown is led by freshman shooting guard Ta'Shauna "Sugar" Rodgers who is averaging 19.8 ppg and 4.2 rpg. She also ranks second on the squad at the line hitting 87.5 percent from the charity stripe. Rodgers scored a career-high 29 points in the win over Central Michigan and was perfect from the line going 4-for-4. She has led GU in scoring in five of its first six games so far this season.

Jaleesa Butler and Tia Magee round out the top three scorers for the Hoyas. Butler is averaging 11.0 ppg and a team-high 8.2 rpg while also tallying nine blocks on the season. She led the Blue & Gray in a tough three-point loss to Dayton scoring 16 points and earned a spot along with Rodgers on the BTI Classic All-Tournament Team. Magee has been consistent to start the season averaging 9.5 ppg and 4.5 rpg. She was close to her first career triple-double against Central Michigan tallying 18 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Wofford is 1-3 on the season with a 77-75 overtime win over Norfolk State as its lone victory on the year. The Terriers opened Southern Conference play last weekend with a 71-65 loss at Western Carolina. Wofford is led by junior Maddie Helms who is averaging 13.0 ppg and has hit 11 three's on the season. Kelly Dwyer and Kathlyn Varno have been solid down low both averaging over 11.0 ppg and six or more rebounds per game.

This will be the first meeting between the two squads.

Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at McDonough Arena. Live stats and a webcast featuring Drew Wiseman will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
