WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior Len Coleman (Basking Ridge, N.J./Pingry School) was named Third Team All-Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The defender had an outstanding season in his final year on the Hilltop leading the Hoyas to a 9-8-2 record. Coleman was one of 14 players from the BIG EAST earning a spot on the first, second or third teams.
This past season, Coleman was the heart of the Georgetown defense which posted eight shutouts. He started in 18 games this year and earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Preseason Squad. In four years at Georgetown, he started in all but two games he appeared in and has been a part of more than 20 shutouts. Throughout his career he has earned a number of conference and national weekly honors.
The award marks his second-consecutive all-region honor after earning a position on the third team last year as a junior.
The Hoyas finished the season with a record of 9-8-2 overall and a mark of 6-5 in BIG EAST play. GU defeated UCLA early in the season marking the first win over a nationally-ranked squad under Head Coach Brian Wiese. Georgetown was the fourth seed in the Blue Division in the BIG EAST Tournament before falling to DePaul in penalty kicks. The Blue & Gray will lose just three seniors to graduation and will return a majority of the starting lineup in 2010.
