Game Notes
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball squad will host the North Carolina State University Lady Wolfpack on Tuesday at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas are currently on an eight-game win streak, their longest since the 1992-93 season, and have had ten days off while taking final exams. The game against Jacksonville State, scheduled for Sunday, was postponed due to inclement weather.
The Blue & Gray is 9-2 on the season following a number of strong performances to open the season. The Hoyas are currently receiving votes in both the AP and USA Today/ESPN polls. Georgetown is also leading the nation in turnover margin averaging a +10.55 on the season and is second in steals per game with an average of 15.5 to its credit. GU is tied for ninth in the nation on its eight-game win streak.
The Hoyas are led by freshman Ta'Shauna "Sugar" Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) who is averaging 18.5 ppg and ranks second on the squad in assists with 28. Senior Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton) is averaging 11.9 ppg and a team-best 7.6 rpg. Junior Monica McNutt (Suitland, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) rounds out those averaging in double digits, with 10.5 ppg and shooting 81.5 percent at the line. McNutt was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll last Monday after leading the Hoyas past Richmond with a career-best 24 points. Butler also had her second double-double of the season in that victory.
NC State is currently 7-4 overall after defeating Winthrop 66-53 on Saturday. The Lady Wolfpack features three players who average double-digit points per game, led by Bonae Holston with 11.6 ppg.
Georgetown is 0-1 all-time against the Wolfpack. Last year, GU lost to NC State 61-58 on New Year's Eve in Raleigh, N.C.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at McDonough Arena. Live stats and a webcast featuring Drew Wiseman will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
