Rodgers Earns BIG EAST Rookie of the Week Honors

Dec. 28, 2009

WASHINGTON - Ta'Shauna "Sugar" Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Monday marking the second time so far this season that she has received the honor. The freshman shooting guard had another outstanding performance helping the Hoyas to a 67-66 victory over NC State last week. Georgetown is currently 10-2 on the season and has not lost a game since November 20.

Rodgers scored a team-high 19 points in the victory over NC State on Tuesday giving GU a 2-0 record over Atlantic Coast Conference institutions this season. After trailing at the break, the Hoyas had an outstanding second half performance outscoring the Lady Wolfpack 35-27 and forcing 17 turnovers. Monica McNutt's (Suitland, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) last-second putback sealed the victory for the Hoyas marking the squad's ninth-straight win.

In the victory over NC State, Rodgers also tallied two assists, two steals and as many rebounds in a season-high 37 minutes played. She is currently leading the Hoyas in scoring averaging 18.6 ppg and is ranked second in the BIG EAST Conference. Rodgers is currently the only player in the conference to have won multiple weekly awards for the 2009-10 season.

Georgetown will head out on the road for its final nonconference game of the season on Wednesday as the Hoyas travel to Clemson for a 7 p.m. matchup. Live stats and a webcast of the game will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
