WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball squad will look to continue a six-game win streak with a 7 p.m. matchup against the Southwest Baptist Bearcats at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas are currently 7-2 on the season and opened the year with six-straight road games. The Hoyas head back on the road this Saturday at Richmond.
The Blue & Gray have been successful in recent weeks with a six-game win streak and a victory over a nationally ranked opponent already to their credit. Last Saturday, the Hoyas defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 73-56. The Hoya defense forced 32 turnovers and had 16 steals. Monica McNutt (Suitland, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) led the Hoyas with 15 points. Ta'Shauna "Sugar" Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) added 12 points. Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton) led the Hoyas with nine rebounds.
Georgetown is led by freshman shooting guard Rodgers who is averaging 19.2 ppg and scored a career-high 29 points earlier in the season at Central Michigan. She is joined by senior Butler who is averaging double-digit points per game and a team-best 7.2 rpg.
Southwest Baptist, located in Bolivar, Mo., is 1-5 on the season and opened its MIAA season with a 69-60 loss to the Central Michigan Jennies on Wednesday. Rachel Graves is the Bearcats' leading scorer averaging 13.3 ppg with a season-high 27 points against Maryville in their only win this season.
Georgetown has never faced the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. This game is the Southwest Baptist's only meeting against a BIG EAST opponent this season. This will also be their only trip to the East Coast this year.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at McDonough Arena. Live stats and a webcast featuring Drew Wiseman will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
