Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's tennis team defeated Towson University on Wednesday afternoon at the McDonough Tennis Complex, 4-3. Sophomore Lacey Herchek (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) won the deciding match, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4
Georgetown started the day taking the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 position, Maxi Thiels (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) and Caroline Kuehn (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) defeated Caitlin White and Evelyn Izaquirre, 8-4 and Alex Sebia (Plains, Pa./Scranton Prep) teamed with Aileen Shea (Great Falls, Va./The Potomac School) to beat Lauren Cloonan and Aandria Carr, 8-6.
Kuehn and Sebia also won their matches in singles play. Kuehn defeated Carr, 6-1, 6-1, and Sebia knocked off Izaquirre, 6-1, 7-5. Herchek's match was the only three-set one of the afternoon and proved to be the most crucial. After taking the first set, 6-2, she fell behind and eventually lost the second set, 3-6. However, Herchek showed her fortitude with a third-set win, 6-4.
