Washington, D.C. - Georgetown women's basketball player Karee Houlette (Houston, Texas/Cypress Springs) was named Honorable Mention All-BIG EAST Thursday afternoon. The guard was one of 25 players honored on the first team, second team or as honorable mention. This is Houlette's first BIG EAST award after transferring from Panola Junior College before her junior season.
Houlette moved into the starting lineup midway through the season after working her way into the rotation early on. The senior is Georgetown's leading scorer averaging 10.5 ppg and 13.4 ppg in BIG EAST play. She is Georgetown's all-time leader in three-point percentage and is shooting 40.6 percent from beyond the arc with 54 three's this season.
The Houston, Texas native has improved her all-around game and is averaging 2.5 rpg as well as notching 27 steals on the year.
The tenth-seeded Hoyas will play No. 15 Seton Hall in the opening round of the BIG EAST Tournament on Friday at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn., at 6 p.m. Georgetown is 17-12 on the season and finished 7-9 in conference play to tie for ninth place.
The BIG EAST honored Angel McCoughtry as the conference player of the year.
For the first time in conference history, all 16 teams will participate in the tournament playing the opening round on Friday and the championship game on Tuesday night which will be televised on ESPN. The BIG EAST is the largest conference in the country with 16 institutions spanning from the Midwest to the East Coast.
