Houlette to Participate in State Farm College Three Point Championship

April 1, 2009

Washington, D.C. - Senior shooting guard Karee Houlette (Houston, Texas/Cypress Springs) was one of eight outstanding student-athletes to be selected to participate in the State Farm College Three Point Championship. Houlette will take on seven other females in the event to be held on Thursday at The Palace of Auburn Hills, the site of the 2009 Men's Final Four.

"I didn't know what to say when Coach Davis called to tell me I had been picked," said Houlette. "I'm just excited to get to represent Georgetown on the national stage."

Houlette finished the season as Georgetown's leading scorer averaging 10.5 ppg and shooting 39.8 percent from three-point range. The senior had 70 three's this season to rank her fourth on the season list, she has also tallied 88 for her career ranking her seventh in just two seasons on the Hilltop.

The guard is one of the nation's most accurate shooters and ranked first in career three-point percentage for the Hoyas hitting 40.4 percent in her two years. This past season, she was named All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention in one of the most competitive conferences in the nation.

Houlette transferred to Georgetown before her junior season from Panola Junior College. She saw limited minutes last year and worked her way into the rotation and eventually the starting lineup this season.

The 21st Annual State Farm College Slam Dunk and Three Point Championship features 24 of the best college seniors to compete in three skills competitions. Eight players each will battle in the men's three-point contest, women's three point contest and men's slam dunk contest. The event is always held at the site of the men's Final Four.

Houlette will be the first student-athlete under Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy to be invited. Although she is one of the more unknown competitors compared to her counterparts, she will have an advantage taking advice from GU Assistant Coach Ashley Davis who competed in the event her senior season at Texas Christian University.

"I'm not very nervous now, but I'm sure once I step out onto the floor I'll be a little nervous," said Houlette. "Coach Davis' advice was pretty simple, make shots."

Houlette will square off against some of the nation's top shooters on Thursday evening. The event will be televised on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET.
