WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University men's crew captured the top spot in the varsity eight, varsity four and novice eight races when the Hoyas raced University of Virginia on Sunday morning on the Potomac River.
The first varsity eight consisting of stroke Grant Morrow, Ben Coyne, Spencer Almy, Joe Ledvina, Andrew Federer, Chuck Hartwig, Brian Gallagher, bow Tom Carroll and cox Jack Carlson won the varsity eight race in a time of 5:34.3.
"I think we've been getting better lately at focusing in and just making sure we get all the basics right consistently, and it showed today," Tom Carroll said.
GU's second varsity eight consisting of stroke Max Mickiewicz, Sam Bourneuf, Peter Holowesko, Bryan Chismar, Tom Skomba, Collin Eckles, Tyler Spencer, bow Nick Williams and cox Victoria Stulgis finished in second place in front of Virginia's first varsity eight in a time of 6:35.9.
"We rowed well and with good composure today, but we are also excited about getting better as we learn to be more aggressive and confident in ourselves," Bryan Chismar said.
GU took the top two places in the varsity four race with Georgetown A finishing in 6:24.1 and Georgetown B finishing in 6:29.3. The Hoyas novice eight took first place in the novice eight race.
The freshman eight including stroke Andy Olsen, Peter Bourneuf, Cameron Hoerner, Nico Dodd, Gregg Charte, Matt Matyjek, Peter Grace, Chris Kozak and cox Carly Heitlinger defeated Virginia by open water in a time of 5:50.0.
