Laura Donaldson Named to 2009 Pocock Lightweight All-America Team

June 15, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University lightweight rowing captain Laura Donaldson (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) was named to the 2009 Pocock Lightweight All-America Team by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).

Donaldson, a junior, was a member of Georgetown's varsity lightweight eight that finished in fifth place at the Grand Final during the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship Regatta on June 7.

"Without question Laura is the heart and soul of our team," Lightweight Rowing Head Coach Jim O'Connor said. "Receiving the honor of All-American is the direct result of the stability which her leadership provides and the relentless effort and dedication she brings every-day in practice."

Donaldson is the fourth Hoyas' rower in the past three years to earn the distinction, joining Alex Vezina and Alexis Zink, who were named to the 2008 squad and Maria Lipperini, who was named to the 2007 squad.

The Pocock Lightweight All America team is selected based on the performance at the IRA National Championship in the lightweight women's eight event. Donaldson is joined by Lane Benes (University of Wisconsin), Gillian Carter (Bucknell University), Madeline Davis (Princeton University), Kaela Erickson (University of Wisconsin), Katherine Heflin (Stanford University), Heidi Hunsberger (University of Wisconsin), Rebekah Kharrazi (Harvard University/Radcliffe Crew), Devon Mitchell (Bucknell University), Gretchen Stumhofer (Stanford University).
