WASHINGTON, D.C> - Lindsay Wise's block at the net sealed the fourth set and the match as the Georgetown University volleyball team (1-2) defeated American University, 3-1 (25-20, 26-28, 25-21, 25-23) on Saturday night in front of a large crowd at Bender Arena on the campus of AU. For the Hoyas, it was the first win against American during the Arlisa Williams' era.

Kortney Robinson led the way with 15 kills and freshman Paris Coleman added 11 kills, nine digs and four service aces for the Hoyas. Ashley Malone had 36 assists, while Tory Rezin led the team with 19 digs.
Georgetown was not intimidated by the loud American home crowd, opening a seven-point, 10-3 lead in the first set, as Kiersten McKoy served GU on a 4-0 run during that stretch. The Eagles would close to within three points three times, but a strong Hoya hitting performance kept AU at arm's length. Georgetown out-hit American .300 to .172 led by Robinson's six kills.
The Eagles would tie the match at one set apiece, as 10 attack errors and five service errors doomed the Hoyas. Still Georgetown kept the set close, trading points while falling behind by as many as four just twice. GU would break three set points behind kills from Coleman, Robinson and Wise, but two Georgetown attack errors would give American the second set, 28-26.
GU got back on track in the third set. After trading points for the majority of play, the Hoyas ended the set on a 6-1 run behind the service of Dorismond, to win 25-21. Malone dished out 10 assists and Dorismond killed four to help give the Hoyas a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth set, AU rushed out to a 7-3 lead before Georgetown went on a 4-0 run to tie the score. From then it was the Hoyas turn to take advantage of the Eagles errors. American made 10 attack errors and three service errors, while Dorismond, Wise and McKoy each had two total blocks and Dorismond led the way with three kills in the 25-23 match-clinching fourth set victory.
