WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior defender Len Coleman (Basking Ridge, N.J./Pingry School) was named to TopDrawerSoccer's National Team of the Week after the Hoyas posted a pair of shutouts en route to winning the Davidson adidas Classic this past weekend. The center back played an integral role in Georgetown's victories as the Hoyas improved to 3-1-1 on the season.
On Friday, the Blue & Gray defeated Coastal Carolina 3-0 as Coleman and the Hoya backline posted its third shutout of the season. The defense allowed just eight Chanticleer shots and only five on goal. The Hoyas then blanked UNC-Asheville on Sunday, 2-0, allowing just two shots on goal in the contest.
Coleman, along with three of his teammates, was named to the all-tournament squad for his outstanding work in the backline. The Preseason All-BIG EAST selection leads a defense that posted a record ten shutouts last season and already four this year.
The award marks the second national honor for Coleman who earned Soccer America Team of the Week last season. He was also an NSCAA All-Region and Third Team All-BIG EAST in 2008.
Georgetown will open BIG EAST play on Friday with a contest at No. 4/3 St. John's.
