Final Stats

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Georgetown University volleyball team (10-6, 0-1 BIG EAST) had its seven-match winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon against Seton Hall, falling 3-2 (24-26, 17-25, 25-22, 28-26, 10-15) in its first BIG EAST match of the season at Walsh Gymnasium.

The Hoyas dropped the first two sets, before taking the next two, including a thrilling 28-26 victory in the fourth set, before falling 15-10 in the fifth to lose just their second match in the last 11. GU outhit the Pirates .156 to .154 and had a season-high 16 total team blocks, but it would not be enough in the conference opener. Georgetown took control of the first set, opening a four-point lead early on. Seton H all would tie the score at 13, but the Hoyas went on a 7-1 run behind the service of Vanessa Dorismond (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) to put the Blue and Gray in front 20-14. The Pirates stormed back tying the score at 23, before jumping out front for only the second time of the game to win 26-24.

Seton Hall stayed hot in the second set, hitting a match-high .455. While the team's traded points early, SHU used a 5-1 run to create separation, getting to 15-10. The Pirates led by as many as eight points on the way to a 25-17 victory and a two-set advanrage. Morgan DeVries had six kills in the second set to lead SHU.

The Hoyas would never trail in the third set, as Sara Manley (Dove Canyon, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) led GU with five kills, hitting .625 for the set. GU went on a 5-0 run midway through the set to take a 20-12, before Seton Hall answered closing the gap to three, 23-20 before a Georgetown timeout. After the timeout, Georgetown survived two attack errors to hold on for a 25-22 victory.

The fourth set featured nine tie scores and four lead changes, with the Pirates putting themselves in front 20-15 late in the set. The Hoyas closed the gap to two points at 22-20 on a kill from Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove), then were able to tie the match at 23. The teams traded points until two SHU attack errors gave Georgetown a 28-26 win, tying the match at two sets apiece.

Georgetown took an early lead in the fifth set, getting to eight first at 8-6. Seton Hall was able to overcome a three-point deficit to tie the match at 10 and scoring the last five points of the set to win 15-10 in the conference opener for both teams.
