WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer team has a big weekend scheduled with matchups against two nationally-ranked squads. The Hoyas will face No. 8 California on Friday evening at North Kehoe Field, before taking on No. 19 UCLA on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Sunday's game is the second in a doubleheader with the women who will play Santa Clara at 11 a.m.
The Hoyas are 0-0-1 so far this season after battling Adelphi to a scoreless tie on Tuesday evening in Garden City, N.Y. This weekend marks Georgetown's home opener at North Kehoe Field as the Hoyas kick-off one of the most anticipated seasons in recent memory. The Blue & Gray has five nationally-ranked opponents on the schedule and was selected to finish third in the Blue Division in the BIG EAST's Preseason Poll.
Friday will be Cal's season opener after finishing second in the Pac-10 last season. The Golden Bears advanced to the third round of the NCAA falling to eventual champ-Maryland who they will meet on Sunday. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Hoyas and Golden Bears. It also marks the first time Georgetown will face a Pac-10 institution.
On Sunday, the Hoyas will welcome UCLA to North Kehoe Field for the second game of a Georgetown Soccer doubleheader. The Bruins will play Maryland on Friday evening before traveling to Washington, D.C., to close out their East Coast weekend.
