WASHINGTON - The No. 19/18 Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the DePaul Blue Demons in a BIG EAST matchup on Saturday at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas are 16-2 on the season and 5-0 in BIG EAST, play riding a 15-game winning streak.
The Blue & Gray has been solid on defense so far this year as the team leads the nation in turnover margin (+10.2) and ranked second in steals averaging 14.6 per game. GU has forced teams into turning over the ball more than 30 times on seven different occasions so far this season. Georgetown has gone 5-0 in conference play with home victories against Providence and Louisville and road wins against Syracuse, USF and Cincinnati.
In Tuesday's game at Cincinnati, Georgetown defeated the Bearcats, 60-56. Monica McNutt (Suitland, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) led the team with a career-high 26 points, followed by Ta'Shauna "Sugar" Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) with 15. Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton) posted a team-best eight rebounds. Georgetown's current 15-game win streak is a program record.
The Blue & Gray is led by Rodgers who is averaging 18.4 ppg on the year. McNutt, a junior captain, is averaging 12.3 ppg and leads the team with 52 steals. Butler has been solid in the paint with 10.6 ppg and a team-best 7.3 rpg as well as 22 blocks.
DePaul is 13-6 overall and 2-3 in BIG EAST play. On Tuesday, the Blue Demons downed the Seton Hall Pirates, 73-69, in New Jersey. The Blue Demons are led by Sam Quigley who is averaging 14.2 ppg.
Georgetown is 1-5 all-time against DePaul with the lone win coming in 2000 in Chicago, Ill. That year, the Hoyas won 73-70 in overtime. Last season, GU fell to then- No.24/25 DePaul despite taking the lead with three minutes remaining. The Hoyas are 0-2 against the Blue Demons at home.
