Rodgers Earns Third BIG EAST Weekly Award of the Season

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University freshman Ta'Shauna "Sugar" Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) earned her second-consecutive BIG EAST Rookie of the Week award on Monday marking her third weekly award so far this season. She is the only player in the conference this year to receive multiple weekly awards. Teammate Monica McNutt (Suitland, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) was also named to the weekly honor roll for the second time this season.

The Hoyas went 2-0 on the week defeating ACC rival Clemson before downing RV/23 Syracuse in the BIG EAST opener on Saturday in overtime. Georgetown is now 12-2 on the season and has won 11-consecutive games, just two shy of the program record of 13.

Rodgers averaged 18.5 ppg on the week as well as pulling down 3.5 rpg and going a perfect 8-of-8 at the free throw line. She led the Hoyas past Clemson with a game-high 17 points and ranked second in scoring against Syracuse notching 20 points in the win over the Orange. Her floater with seconds remaining in overtime was the game-winning shot giving the Hoyas a 1-0 mark in conference play.

The freshman is currently leading the Blue & Gray in scoring, averaging 18.6 ppg to rank her second in the BIG EAST. She also sits at second on the squad in assists with 35 on the season.

McNutt averaged 18.0 ppg on the week going a perfect 11-of-11 at the free throw line in the win over RV/23 Syracuse. She led the Hoyas past the Orange with 23 points along with five rebounds, four steals and three assists. In the victory at Clemson, McNutt scored 13 points. The junior captain led the Hoyas in steals with 44 and ranks third on the squad in scoring averaging 11.4 ppg. McNutt currently leads the BIG EAST in steals per game (3.1) and free throw percentage (88.1).

Georgetown will have the week off before facing BIG EAST rival South Florida on Saturday in Tampa, Fla. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
