WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer team will host the Seton Hall University Pirates in a BIG EAST matchup Wednesday afternoon at North Kehoe Field. The Hoyas are 6-4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play after downing Providence, 1-0, this past weekend. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Georgetown has won its last four games including two conference foes and a ranked squad. This past week, the Blue & Gray downed American University, 3-2, when freshman Steve Neumann (New Hope, Pa./Council Rock North) hit the game-winning goal in the 85th minute.
On Saturday, the Hoyas traveled to Providence College in a BIG EAST contest. Neumann scored in the 43rd minute and the GU defense managed to hang on for the victory. It marked Georgetown's fourth shutout of the season which includes two ranked teams.
Neumann is leading the Hoyas with 12 points notching four goals and as many assists on the season. He was named this week's BIG EAST Rookie of the Week after posting three goals in two games. Neumann has two game winners to his credit and has scored four goals in just six shots on the net.
Senior goalkeeper Matthew Brutto (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this week for the second time this season. Brutto has 43 saves in 10 games to his credit with a record of 6-3-1.
Seton Hall dropped its second straight at the University of Connecticut on Saturday to drop to 3-7-1 overall and 1-2 in BIG EAST play. Steven Rose still leads the offense with 11 points on five goals and one assist despite missing the bulk of the last three games due to injury. SHU's defense will look to rebound after surrendering four first-half goals against the Huskies. Kevin Bonder is leading the squad in the net with 25 saves in six games and a GAA of 1.66.
Georgetown is 11-14-2 all-time against Seton Hall, who plays in Conference's Blue Division. Last season, the Hoyas managed to pull out the 2-1 victory in South Orange, N.J. The Blue & Gray trailed early, but scored a pair of goals in the final 15 minutes on shots from Andy Riemer (McLean, Va./Georgetown Prep) and Jose Colchao (Fairfax, Va./Lake Braddock Secondary School) to get the win. In their last meeting at North Kehoe Field in 2007, the squads tied, 1-1, in double overtime.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m., at North Kehoe Field. Live stats and a webcast featuring Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
