WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer team will host the Villanova University Wildcats in a BIG EAST matchup Saturday afternoon at North Kehoe Field. The Hoyas are 7-4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play after downing Seton Hall, 6-0, on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Georgetown has won its last five games including three conference foes and a ranked squad. This past week, the Blue & Gray downed Seton Hall University, 6-0, with four goals in the first half and two in the second.
Sophomore Tommy Muller (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Trinity Prep) opened the scoring for the Hoyas in the 25th minute, followed by a 27th minute goal from senior Chandler Diggs (Coppell, Texas/Coppell). Freshman Steve Neumann (New Hope, Pa./Council Rock North) added two goals to close out the first half, and senior Jose Colchao (Fairfax, Va./Lake Braddock Secondary School) as well as freshman Gabe Padilla (Sacramento, Calif./Jesuit) each scored a goal in the second half.
Neumann is leading the Hoyas with 17 points notching six goals and five assists on the season. He has two game winners to his credit and has scored six goals in just eight shots on the net. Neumann was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Monday and goalkeeper Matthew Brutto (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) earned a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the second week in row.
Villanova won its last game, downing Rutgers on Wednesday, to improve to 7-4-2 overall and 3-0-1 in BIG EAST play. Dylan Renna leads the offense with nine points on four goals and one assist, followed by Kevin Garcia, who has seven points on three goals and one assist. Chris Bresnaham is leading the squad in the net with 60 saves in 12 games and a GAA of 0.88.
Georgetown is 19-12-5 all-time against Villanova who plays in Conference's Red Division. Last season, on September 25, the Hoyas defeated the Wildcats, 1-0, at home. The Blue & Gray scored early, with Colchao finding the net on Uche Onyeador's (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) pass in the fifth minute.
