Box Score

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University volleyball team (13-10, 3-4 BIG EAST) dropped a five-set match to the USF Bulls (9-9, 5-2 BIG EAST). Lindsay Wise (Raleigh, N.C./Raleigh Charter) notched 11 kills, a match-high .600 hitting percentage and seven total blocks. Vanessa Dorismond (Cary, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) added 14 kills up the middle for the Hoyas. The set scores were 25-21, 26-24, 15-25, 24-26, 10-15.

"We had good performances by our middles," said Head Coach Arlisa Williams. "Wise and Dorismond were strong at the net."

In the deciding fifth set, the Hoyas went up 5-3 on an error by USF, but later let the Bulls tie the set a nine. GU dropped the next three points before scoring on another USF error to make the score 12-10 USF. The Hoyas could not score again and dropped the set 15-10.

To start the match, the Blue & Gray took the lead at 4-3 and did not look back. Up 23-21, two Hoya kills put the first set away at 25-21. Wise was four for five in kills during the set while Ashley Malone (San Jose, Calif./St. Francis) tallied 10 assists in the set. Malone notched 45 assists, nine digs and three service aces on the match.

Scoring was back-and-forth throughout the second set, which featured 11 ties. Tied at 24, two Georgetown kills again closed out the set at 26-24. Dorismond recorded five kills with a .833 hitting percentage in the second set.

After dropping the third set 25-15, GU turned in strong performances in the fourth set. Down 24-23, a kill from Samantha Trauth (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) tied the set, but USF capitalized on GU errors to take the set 26-24. Malone tallied 16 assists while Trauth notched five kills as the team hit .364 in the fourth set.

"We let up and South Florida stepped their game up. Our unforced errors let them back into the match," stated Williams.

The Hoyas travel next weekend to take on BIG EAST opponents Louisville and Cincinnati. GU will face Louisville on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. and Cincinnati on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 2 p.m.
