WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's soccer team will travel to the University of Pittsburgh on Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. matchup at Founders Field. The Hoyas are 8-4-1 on the season and 4-1 in the BIG EAST with a six-game win streak including four conference contests.
Senior forward Jose Colchao (Fairfax, Va./Lake Braddock Secondary School) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, while freshman midfielder Steve Neumann (New Hope, Pa./Council Rock North) earned BIG EAST Rookie of the Week as well as CollegeSoccerNews.com Player of the Week.
Georgetown is 8-4-1 on a six-game win streak and tied for first in the BIG EAST Blue Division with a mark of 4-1. Neumann leads the squad with eight goals and six assists for 22 points. The 22 points tie him for first in the BIG EAST. Colchao has four goals and two assists for 10 points.
Last week, Neumann had ten points and Colchao posted six as Georgetown went 2-0. The Blue & Gray defeated Seton Hall, 6-0, and Villanova, 3-1. Senior Matthew Brutto (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) leads the squad on defense with 47 saves in 12 games with four shutouts. Georgetown has five total shutouts on the season.
The Panthers are 6-5-2 on the year and 1-2-2 in BIG EAST play, but undefeated at home with a 6-0-1 record. Most recently, the team defeated Rutgers, 3-0, posting its sixth shutout on the season. The squad is led by redshirt junior Sam Luffy who has four goals and one assist on the season for nine points. Redshirt senior Alex Betancourt has three goals and two assists for eight points. Junior Hami Kara has 37 saves in the net with a GAA of 1.05.
The Hoyas lead the all-time series, 18-5. Last year the squad defeated Pittsburgh at North Kehoe Field, 1-0, in double overtime as Alex Verdi scored the game winner. The previous season, the Blue & Gray won, 1-0, at Founders Field as Peter Grasso scored just five minutes into the contest.
